ROCHESTER, NY, July 17, 2025 – On Sunday, July 13, EPI hosted the 4th Annual Seize the Day: Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run 10K, 5K & One Mile Fun Run/Walk. More than 260 people and ten furry friends came to Mendon Ponds Park to run and walk challenging trail courses in temperatures that peaked over ninety degrees, and soaring humidity. About Seize the Day
This event was started by Amer Armbruster after he received an epilepsy diagnosis in 2019. An avid runner and cross-country skier, he was initially unable to compete due to the uncertainty of his seizures.
With the help of friends, family, and physicians, Amer discovered ways to work with his diagnosis and get back to the activities he loves. After finding his way, Amer recognized that his case is mild, and that other people can suffer much more severe side effects causing significant life interruptions.
Through the Seize the Day Race, Amer wanted to raise awareness about epilepsy, highlight the resources available to individuals and families and provide support to young people who may find themselves in the same place.
Now that Amer has graduated high school and attending college, his sister Nyla has stepped up to serve as the honorary chair for 2025.
“I’m very proud of my brother for establishing this race and I am honored to have served as the honorary event chair for 2025. In preparation, I presented to several groups about epilepsy and was able to continue Amer’s desire to raise awareness.”
We are grateful for the work Nyla, Amer and the entire Armbruster family has put into this event over the last four years and look forward to hosting fun and successful events in the future.
